The Shift

With the passing of Dr. Wayne Dyer just a few days ago, a new hole has formed in my heart (as is true with a good many people). I read many of his books and watched quite a few of his lectures, and his thoughts and philosophies have had many positive effects on my life. That said, yesterday was the first time I watched his movie, "The Shift". I knew about it and wanted to watch it when it first came out, but life happens and I never got around to it. Until now. With his passing, Hay House (his publisher) made it available online for free for a few days.

"The Shift" is several powerful stories, all intertwined and pulled together by Dr. Dyer's philosophy of man's spiritual journey from ambition to meaning. As he elaborates on how peoples' outlooks change, or shift, over time, you can watch the characters in the movie proceed through shifts of their own. In each smaller story, the characters all begin to see a new, more powerful way of operating in the world.

From the first few minutes of the movie, I could sense the power of the thoughts behind it. It literally made me cry--not hard but I could not keep water from leaking from my eyes. As I proceeded to watch, I felt my own thoughts questioning my personal motivations and direction. While the movie does not bring up judgment specifically, I realized I have a tendency to live my life based on all those things I've been taught I "should" do, even when they don't mesh with what my heart is telling me. My thoughts typically run to, "I have to get this done," or, "I need to go here now," instead of, "what will bring me joy in the moment?" Even in my free time, I typically judge myself so harshly I don't allow myself to get quiet and listen to that inner guidance like I should. The only time I consciously allow myself this freedom is the time I set aside daily for prayer and meditation. Not living from this place injures us more than we're aware. It keeps us from that place of flow and abundance.

"The Shift" should be available online to watch for free at this link for a few more days. (The Shift) Take a few hours to sit down and watch this wonderful movie. You won't regret it, and it may just change your life!!!
